Purpose and Rationale

Bachelor of Experience Design

Purpose

The purpose of this Bachelor of Experience Design is to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and graduate attributes required for a career in experience design, with a focus on User Experience Design (UX) and Motion Design. Experience Design involves designing people's interactions with objects, spaces, and systems to enhance utility, usability, satisfaction, and delight. This qualification prepares learners to work as experience designers in various fields, including business, government, or entrepreneurship.

Learners have the option to specialize in either User Experience (UX) Design or Motion Design. UX Design concentrates on digital technology interactions like mobile and web applications, focusing on usability and interfaces. Motion Design centers on the user's experience with digital content such as videos, animations, and infographics, emphasizing clarity, comprehensibility, entertainment value, and emotional engagement.

Specializations:

  • User Experience (UX) Design: Focuses on user-centered design, human-computer interaction, brand strategy, and digital technologies.
  • Motion Design: Concentrates on audio-visual communication, motion design, branding, and emerging digital media.

The curriculum includes industry-relevant research, critical thinking, creativity, and practical applications to provide a comprehensive understanding of the digital landscape.

Rationale

Technological advancements have raised audience expectations for immersive, multisensory experiences, resulting in a high demand for skills in UX, motion design, and digital content creation. The National List of Occupations in High Demand highlights UX-related skills as essential, with UI/UX Design Specialists in demand across various sectors. Scarcity of skills in areas like 3D modeling, animation, visual effects, and AR/VR content creation further underscores the need for specialized education in these fields.

This qualification addresses the emerging competencies in UX Design, motion design, and digital content creation to meet current industry demands and adapt to future skills requirements. Graduates can pursue various roles such as Motion Designer, Digital Content Creator, User Experience Designer, Interaction Designer, and more.

By merging theoretical foundations with practical skills, this program aims to develop adaptive problem solvers with specialized design expertise to thrive in the evolving digital landscape.

Outcomes

  1. Design innovative, user-centred experience designs that are strategically sound, based on research, and supported by a creative rationale.
  2. Apply design outcomes that are sensitive to and respectful of the context of the user and the design challenge.
  3. Apply suitable technologies, platforms, and software effectively in various preproduction, production, and post-production processes.
  4. Collaborate and communicate effectively and professionally in a multidisciplinary design team within a collaborative work environment.
