Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Overview

Purpose:

  • The purpose of the qualification is two-fold:
    1. To consolidate and deepen the knowledge and skills of learners with Bachelor's Degrees in informatics, aiming to deliver a mature learner with a holistic understanding of information systems.
    2. To prepare learners for managerial positions in Information Systems Management (ISM) contexts and introduce them to research in Information Systems/Management.

Rationale:

  • The institution currently does not offer a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at NQF Level 8 in Information Systems Management (ISM), prompting learners to enroll in equivalent qualifications in other faculties, creating confusion.

Target Audience:

  • Learners with Bachelor's Degrees in informatics seeking to advance their knowledge and skills in ISM, and those interested in pursuing managerial positions in this field.

Key Components:

  • In-depth knowledge in information systems and their socio-technical aspects.
  • Preparation for managerial roles in ISM contexts.
  • Introduction to research in Information Systems/Management.

By addressing the above-mentioned points, the qualification aims to cater to the needs of learners interested in the dynamic and interdisciplinary field of Information Systems Management.
