Purpose and Rationale

Purpose: The Bachelor of Education in Educational Management and Leadership is designed to prepare learners for research-based postgraduate studies in educational management and leadership within the school and school district context. It aims to enhance and deepen a learner's understanding of school management and leadership, develop research skills in the methodology of this field, and enable learners to write a research report under supervision. This qualification requires a high level of theoretical engagement and intellectual independence in educational management and leadership.

As the first postgraduate degree in education, as per the Policy for Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications (MRTEQ, February 2015), this program is intended to equip postgraduate students with the necessary skills for research-based studies. It aims to enhance and intensify learners' research capacity and expertise, specifically in Educational Management and Leadership.

Rationale: The main goal of this qualification is to produce competent educational leaders and managers to meet the increasing demand in the educational leadership and management sector. Targeted learners include School Principals, Deputy Principals, Head of Departments, Senior District Officials, and Teachers. With a high demand for leaders and managers with specialized knowledge and skills, this program will equip school managers and district officials with the necessary professional skills, knowledge, and attitudes to excel in their roles.

For learners, this qualification will support personal and professional growth, prepare them to take on leadership and management positions in the education sector, enhance their employability as leaders and managers, and provide access to further education and training opportunities. Graduates of this Honours Degree will contribute to society by applying their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to create visionary educational communities in their respective workplaces.
