The purpose of the qualification is to provide the following:
To produce appropriately trained professionals in South Africa who possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to register as doctors with the Medical and Dental Professional Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
To cultivate future teaching staff for medical schools in Southern Africa, thereby contributing to the development and sustainability of medical education in the region.
To solve common patient problems holistically, we can consider the following alternate options:
Basic Research: Conduct basic research on common problems in the community to understand the root causes and explore alternative treatment options.
Portfolio Compilation: Compile portfolios to relate experiential learning to academic knowledge, identifying patterns and effective strategies for addressing patient problems.
Effective Communication: Use effective communication techniques in the treatment of patients to ensure they understand their condition, treatment options, and preventive measures.
Group Projects: Participate in projects that require collaboration with other healthcare professionals to gain diverse perspectives and develop comprehensive solutions to patient problems.
Ethical Considerations: Demonstrate an understanding of the ethics governing medical practice, ensuring patient autonomy, confidentiality, and informed consent are upheld in all interactions.
