Purpose: The purpose of the B. Med Science in Anatomy program is to provide a well-rounded, broad education that equips graduates with the knowledge base and theory to assist in clinical application and lab work. It enables students to demonstrate initiative and responsibility in an academic or professional context, preparing them for postgraduate study or general employment. The program emphasizes general principles and theory, enabling students to understand, critically analyze, and interpret scientific and biomedical data. It also trains graduates in professional writing skills to effectively convey scientific and biomedical information.
Rationale:
Anatomy is a basic science that can be integrated across various modules within the School and College curriculum, such as ethics, law, comparative anatomy, cytology, virology, and haematology. This interdisciplinary approach creates a holistic teaching and learning environment. Training in the scientific method provides a foundation for understanding congenital abnormalities, population differences, exposure to health conditions, variations predisposing to abnormal development, and prevalent disease states in the region. This program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in the field of Anatomy and related areas.
