Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Description

Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with systematic knowledge, specialised skills, and theoretical competence within an interdisciplinary framework to prepare them as specialists in the field. The design offers in-depth knowledge and basic research opportunities to build research confidence and problem-solving skills. Learners will be developed to perform independently and to become intellectual leaders in society.

Rationale

The rationale for the development of this qualification is to allow learners to study in the field of communication from the first-year level to the Doctoral level. Communication Studies is offered at all other study levels (Doctoral, Masters, and undergraduate level) but not at an Honours level. The aim is to include communication theory and basic research for learners who aspire to become researchers and academics.

  4. Facilitate effective verbal and non-verbal persuasive communication.

  • Critical Thinking:
    • Suggest creative ideas to solve communication problems.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:

  • Verbal and Non-verbal Communication:
    • Facilitate effective persuasive communication, both verbally and non-verbally.
    • Display appropriate communication skills and media in various communication environments.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:

  • Research Project Management:
    • Correctly collect and organize information for a research project.
    • Explain the theory and dynamic interrelationship between units in the context of Communication.
    • Demonstrate cultural and aesthetic sensitivity in Communication Theory research.
    • Apply responsible citizenship principles in Communication Theory locally, nationally, and globally.
    • Present research findings orally and in written form.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:

  • Complex Communication Information:
    • Effectively use complex communication information in oral and written formats.
    • Demonstrate appropriate communication skills in relevant media.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Assessments are in line with the institution's policy.
  • Three summative assessments during the module and one final assessment at the end are conducted.
  • Assessment methods are determined by the lecturer.
  • Qualification-specific criteria, rules, and regulations are communicated to learners.
  • Assessment methods align with the institution's principles.
  • Various assessment methods are used to assess learners.
  • Assessment activities include observations, evaluations of products, and questions.
  • Memorandums/assessment marking guides accompany assessment activities.
  • The weight of each assessment opportunity is predetermined.
