Qualification Overview
Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to:
- Prepare qualified nurses who have a broad-based scientific knowledge of health and nursing sciences.
- Demonstrate predetermined levels of competence in various clinical settings.
- Function as a professional registered nurse, midwife, community health nurse, and psychiatric nurse within institutional and community contexts.
- Upon successful completion, the graduate will be eligible for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse (General, Psychiatric and Community) and Midwife.
Rationale
This qualification aims to enable learners to:
- Function as a clinically focused, service-oriented, independent registered professional in nursing, midwifery, community health, and psychiatric nursing.
- Render comprehensive care across all health spheres as per legislative frameworks.
- Address the growing gap between the demand and supply of professional nurses and midwives.
