Purpose and Rationale

Purpose:

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Statistics aims to:

  1. Equip learners with knowledge and expertise.

  • Analyse and solve statistical problems.
  • Interpret and manipulate statistical statements to prove key theoretical results.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:

  • Access, process, and manage relevant statistical data.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:

  • Demonstrate communication skills through report-writing and presentations.
  • Make research decisions appropriately to relevant stakeholders.
  • Use appropriate statistical software to model and solve problems.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Formative and Summative Assessment:
    • Each theory module includes continuous assessment and a final examination.
    • Final mark for a theory module includes marks from continuous assessment and final examination.
  • Research Project (Formative Assessment):
    • Research paper/treatise as a project of defined scope and limited length.
  • Calculation of the final mark for the degree (Summative Assessment):
    • Theory modules carry weight of credit value (16.66%) each.
    • Theory modules contribute two-thirds (2/3) of the final mark.
    • Research project contributes one third (1/3) of the final mark.
