Purpose and Rationale

Purpose:

The Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management is a general formative qualification with the purpose to provide learners with a recognised qualification and to equip them with Graduate level Financial and Management knowledge, skills and competence in a number of fields of the Management and Financial Sciences that provide opportunities for continued personal and intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

The qualification provide a well-rounded, broad education that equips learners with the knowledge base, theory and methodology of disciplines and fields of study, and to enable them to demonstrate initiative and responsibility in an academic or professional context. It further emphasises general principles and theory as preparation for entry into general employment or for a Postgraduate programme.

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with a recognised qualification and to equip them with Graduate level financial and management knowledge, skills and competence in a number of fields of the Management and Financial Sciences that provide opportunities for continued personal and intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

Integrated Assessment:

Formative Assessment Practices:

  • Two formal tests per semester course
  • Self-assessment through working on simulated questions and suggested solutions independently (Assignments)

Summative Assessment Practices:

  • Integrated assessment focusing on the achievement of exit-level outcomes
  • Summative assessment through a three-hour written examination at the end of each semester course
  • Prior knowledge from preceding years is essential for understanding material in subsequent courses
  • Assessment includes application and integration of previously acquired knowledge into current subject matter
