Business, Commerce and Management Studies - Finance Economics and Accounting
The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with integrated knowledge of economic concepts, theories, models, laws, principles, skills, research methods, and applied competence enabling them to pursue rewarding careers in the changing economic environment within the national and international context.
This qualification aims to provide South Africa with Graduates who are competent in the field of economics with the capacity to understand and function effectively in the economy.
The Exit level Outcomes are assessed by applying the Associated Assessment Criteria in an integrated manner:
Knowledge and Understanding: Students achieve a systematic and integrated knowledge and understanding of fundamental terms, concepts, facts, principles, rules, and theories in the discipline. They demonstrate the ability to analyse, evaluate, and apply this knowledge.
Scientific Inquiry: Students apply appropriate discipline-related methods of scientific inquiry. They independently validate, evaluate, and manage sources of information to support their work.
Problem-Solving: Students demonstrate an understanding and application of appropriate methods to resolve complex discipline-related problems. They critically reflect on introducing change within related practice.
Professional Behavior: Students display professional and ethical behavior within academic and discipline-related environments. They show sensitivity towards societal and cultural considerations.
Communication: Students effectively communicate scientific understanding, own opinions, and ideas through written or oral arguments. They use appropriate discipline-related and academic discourse as well as technology for communication.
Teamwork and Leadership: Students demonstrate effective functioning as a member or leader of a team in scientific projects or investigations. They show self-directed management of learning activities and take responsibility for their own learning progress.
In terms of Integrated Assessment:
Formative Assessment modes include class tests and integrated assignments, with a maximum weight of 50%. Summative Assessment consists of one or more two or three-hour examinations per module, with a weighting of 50%.
