Qualification Overview

Purpose:

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with a more theoretical and practical insight into the field of Chemistry. It aims to equip qualifying learners with Postgraduate level skills that will enable them to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the main areas of chemistry including Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry. Additionally, the qualification aims to equip learners with skills in conducting research in the field of Chemistry.

Rationale:

The qualification is important as it serves as the initial step in training Postgraduate learners for the development of research capacity in South Africa. By providing learners with advanced knowledge and skills in Chemistry, the qualification aims to contribute to the growth and advancement of the field, ultimately benefiting scientific research and innovation in the country.

  1. Demonstrate the ability to recall important definitions and principles of the theory of Chemistry.
  2. Apply knowledge of the principles of Chemistry to application-based exercises.
