Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate in writing their understanding of Information Systems & Technology (IST) theories and principles.
  2. Demonstrate their ability to apply IST theory in practice. Such assessment will be done according to the learner's problem analysis and reporting.
  3. Identify and diagnose IST problems in both real and hypothetical (case based) organisations.
  4. Collect, analyse, and report on IST information gathered from organisations in order to develop solutions to problems.
  5. Develop practical solutions.
  6. Make recommendations based on their findings and conclusions.
  7. Participate in-group work.

Assessment Criteria

Academic Research in Information Systems and Technology

Information systems and technology play a critical role in today's organizations, shaping how businesses operate and compete in the digital age. Conducting valid academic research in this field is essential for understanding key issues, evaluating standpoints, and developing solutions to management problems.

Importance of Academic Research

  1. Understanding Key Issues: Academic research helps in exploring and understanding current issues in information systems and technology. It provides insights into trends, challenges, and opportunities that can impact organizations.

  2. Evaluating Standpoints: Research allows for the evaluation of different perspectives on key issues. By analyzing various viewpoints, researchers can develop a well-rounded understanding of complex problems and make informed decisions.

  3. Developing Solutions: Academic research enables the development of innovative solutions to management problems. By conducting rigorous research, researchers can identify best practices, propose strategies, and recommend actions that address organizational challenges.

Methodology and Approach

  1. Literature Review: A comprehensive literature review is essential for grounding research in existing knowledge and identifying gaps in the literature. By reviewing relevant studies and theoretical frameworks, researchers can build a solid foundation for their research.

  2. Data Collection: Depending on the research objectives, data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, case studies, and experiments can be employed. Collecting and analyzing data allows researchers to test hypotheses, validate findings, and draw conclusions.

  3. Analysis and Interpretation: Data analysis techniques such as statistical analysis, qualitative coding, and thematic analysis are used to make sense of the collected data. By interpreting the results, researchers can draw meaningful insights and implications for practice.

Group Development of Solutions

In collaborative settings, group work is essential for developing solutions to management problems involving various organizational stakeholders. By leveraging diverse perspectives, skills, and expertise, groups can generate creative ideas, evaluate alternatives, and co-create solutions that are comprehensive and effective.

Verbal Presentations and Integration

Verbal presentations play a crucial role in communicating research outcomes, sharing insights, and engaging with stakeholders. By presenting findings in a clear, concise, and compelling manner, researchers can effectively communicate their ideas, influence decision-making, and drive organizational change.

Integrated Assessment and Research Skills Development

Throughout the academic journey, learners will be exposed to research methods, applications, and assignments that require the application of research skills. By integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications, learners can enhance their research capabilities, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities.

In conclusion, academic research in information systems and technology is a dynamic and evolving field that requires rigorous inquiry, critical analysis, and collaborative problem-solving. By conducting valid research, evaluating standpoints, developing solutions, and presenting outcomes effectively, researchers can contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practice in this critical domain.
