Qualification Overview

Purpose:

This qualification aims to develop professionally qualified technical and vocational education and training educators who are equipped to:

Rationale:

The Advanced Diploma in Technical and Vocational Teaching (Adv-Dip (TVT)) serves as a professional teaching qualification for lecturers in technical and vocational education and training settings. It is designed for individuals holding a general undergraduate Bachelor Degree or Diploma, providing them with the necessary skills to become qualified TVET educators.

The qualification responds to the need for an enhanced TVET system to align with economic demands and student needs. It targets current lecturers lacking teaching expertise and aims to improve the overall quality and efficiency of TVET institutions.

The curriculum includes disciplinary learning, pedagogical learning, practical and work-integrated learning, situational learning, and fundamental learning, covering a wide range of competencies essential for TVET educators. Topics such as HIV/AIDS, unemployment, diversity, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability are also addressed within the program.

  • Use the main language of instruction to explain, describe, discuss, and relate key concepts in the area of specialization.
  • Convey the content of own fields of specialization in written, graphic, and other forms appropriate to the developmental level/s and language ability of the learners.
  • Interpret written and graphic materials relating to own fields of specialization.
  • Apply numerical and elementary statistical knowledge to educational issues, cross-curricular activities, and own learning.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 20:

  • Use basic social conversation to engage with students in at least one African language.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 21:

  • Use information and communications technology to further own learning and facilitate the learning of others.

Integrated Assessment:

  • The assessment of learners will take place through various methods including written assignments, tests, examinations, and practical sessions during work-integrated learning.
  • Formative feedback on key concepts will be provided to students early in the course.
  • Written feedback will be given to students to improve their writing quality.
  • Feedback will be provided to students prior to summative assessments to optimize their learning.
  • The link between theory and practice will be emphasized through work-integrated learning.
