Purpose and Rationale

Advanced Management Sciences Programme Objectives

The Bachelor of Commerce degree in Management Sciences aims to provide learners with the following objectives:

  1. Advanced Knowledge and Skills: Equip learners with advanced knowledge and skills in various technical aspects of management sciences to promote sustainable growth and development.

  2. Maximise Prosperity: Enable learners to maximise prosperity in all sectors of the economy and society through the application of management sciences principles.

  3. Competent Leaders: Develop competent leaders in management sciences with advanced applied fundamental and generic cross-functional technical knowledge and skills.

  4. Steer Sustainable Development: Prepare learners to steer sustainable development, growth, and prosperity in the most appropriate direction.

  5. Specialised Studies: Provide students interested in further specialised studies with a solid academic and research foundation to pursue specialized disciplines within management sciences.

By achieving these objectives, the programme aims to produce skilled professionals who can contribute effectively to the sustainable growth and development of various sectors in the economy and society.

Outcomes

  1. Read, interpret and apply advanced and more technical management related literature and teach oneself from source material.
  2. Show an advanced understanding of the use of scientific approaches and research methods in the acquisition of scientific management related knowledge (e.g. the importance of using advanced and more complex research methodologies).
  3. Identify and solve complex management problems in a critical and creative way.
  4. Work effectively with others as a member of a senior management team in the private, developmental and public sectors.
  5. Organise and manage oneself and one's personal activities responsibly and effectively.
  6. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate more advanced and technically more complex management related information.
  7. Communicate more advanced and technically more complex management related issues effectively, using advanced visual, mathematical and or language skills in the modes of oral and or written persuasion.
  8. Use advanced technical management related science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and interests of others.
  9. Demonstrate advanced and technical understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that management related problem solving contexts do not exist in isolation.
  10. Understand and apply a range of advanced, technical management related techniques, procedures and experimental approaches required in the different specific programmes leading up to this qualification.
  11. Apply more advanced and technical more complex management related knowledge and practical skills to address theoretical and practical management problems.
  12. Learn and apply appropriate lessons from these more complex experiences in order to solve technical management related problems in such a way that sustainable developmental outcomes are ensured.
