Qualification Overview

Purpose

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate important trends/developments in the historiography and philosophy of History.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to apply correct methodologies and techniques to critically analyse African History and the position of Africa in the World, which form the core focus of the qualification.
  3. Demonstrate independent primary Historical research skills in accordance qualification. Research skills of candidates need to clearly reflect a successful balance between applying theoretical underpinnings (theory and methodology modules) of the qualification and practical training research project.

Assessment Criteria

Integrated Assessment:

The qualification is designed to include both formative and summative assessments for the theory and elective modules.

  • Formative Assessments are provided by means of tutorials and assignments.
  • Tests form both formative and summative assessments for theory and elective modules. Test marks are included as part of the class mark.
  • Summative Assessment of theory and elective modules concludes with formal written examinations which are assessed internally by the course lecturers.
  • Final Assessment for theory and elective modules is based on a 50:50 ratio of the module mark to the examination mark.
