Purpose and Rationale

Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to enhance the employability of the learner in the commerce sector in the area of specialisation studied and to apply educational knowledge, skills, principles and methods to exercise management functions required for a manager.

Rationale

The qualification responds to the needs of the community, responding to business and industry needs and to life-long learning and the appreciation of the value of education and society.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate ability/skill to achieve the major skills/applied competency of the qualification.
  2. Demonstrate understanding, by the learner, of the embedded knowledge that underpins the end result/outcome.
  3. Demonstrated ability/skill to integrate or connect our performances and to reflect on, evaluate and adopt the above competencies.

Assessment Criteria

Associated Assessment Criteria:

  1. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of relevant theories and practices.
  2. Critically analyse theories, examples, and case studies.
  3. Use own knowledge to offer suggestions for solving business problems at the community and national levels.
  4. Demonstrate increasingly competent research and reporting skills.
  5. Use library and other resources effectively to suit his/her individual needs and to conduct a limited research project.
  6. Act responsibly as a scholar (appropriate referencing, avoiding plagiarism etc.).
  7. Use numbers and statistics appropriately and with accuracy.
  8. Follow conventions of scholarship in the various disciplines under study.
  9. Think independently and offer evidence to support his/her decisions.
  10. Practice the ethics pertinent to Business Management.

Integrated Assessment:

  • The assessment approach is integrated both horizontally and vertically to ensure the Exit Level Outcomes have been met.

  • Formative Assessment:

    • Learning and assessment are integrated through continuous assessment.
    • Tests and assignments based on learning materials provide feedback to students.
    • Focuses on smaller sections of work and limited outcomes.
  • Summative Assessment:

    • Examinations assess a representative selection of outcomes.
    • Includes tests and a written research report to evaluate the integration of knowledge.
    • Assessment aligns with University Rules and the assessment policy of student learning.
