Purpose and Rationale

Purpose and Rationale of the Qualification

Purpose: The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence, on a postgraduate level, in the mastering, analysis, interpretation, and understanding economic principles and methods, with a special focus on Econometric techniques.

Rationale: This qualification will prepare learners to reflect on their own economic applications to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Economics as a social science within their everyday lives. Additionally, it will prepare them for further study in Economics and Econometrics as a science.

Outcomes

  1. Meet the distinct need in the private and public sectors for well trained econometricians/analysts/researchers. These needs include analytical, mathematical and practical skills to analyse the economy and the econometrician/analyst/researcher needs to be able to give advice to role players to implement decisions.
  2. Utilise the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge acquired to be able to perform their duties as a specialist on econometrics in the workplace and/or in the academy as this qualification is both a professional and academically focused learning qualification.
