Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to:

  5. Provide a comprehensive qualification covering obstetric skills, mental health, and primary health care.
  6. Assist nurses in refining their academic skills to incorporate new knowledge and approaches to nursing care assessment and evaluation.

The rationale behind this qualification includes:

Integrated Assessment:

  • The South African Nursing Council (SANC) guidelines for assessment and the competency framework are used as a reference for assessing clinical competence.
  • Formative assessments can include a mix of simulated and actual (real) clinical practice or care settings.
  • Summative assessment can take the form of oral, written, and practical examinations.
  • All summative practical assessments must be conducted in actual clinical practice or care settings, or clinical laboratories.
