Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Title:

Bachelor of Human Resource Management

Purpose:

  • Equip learners with critical and creative expertise in human resource management, industrial psychology, business management, and public governance competencies.
  • Focus on people management within business-government or private-public partnerships and prioritize systems, processes, and best practices at local, national, and global levels.
  • Specialize in human resource management practices within business management or public management processes, techniques, and systems.
  • Provide relevant knowledge of current labor and commercial law, analytical techniques, and public management and governance policies.
  • Guide and support learners in conducting research and implementing individual and/or group work integrated projects.
  • Develop compulsory application skills in literacy, numeracy, analysis, and data management.

Rationale:

  • Industry experts, learners, and the South African Board of Personnel Practices (SABPP) have expressed a strong need for a Bachelor Degree focusing directly on the human resource management profession.
  • Graduates will be prepared for roles such as Human Resource Manager or Human Resource Officer in public or private sectors, bringing value to employee management and administration with their knowledge in human resource management, industrial psychology, business management, and public governance.
  • The qualification aims to produce well-rounded leaders who can implement strategies effectively in the professional human resource environment, benefiting society and the economy by supplying skilled professionals to local and global markets.

  1. Analyse the human resource field and value chain when sourcing, remunerating, performance managing, developing, managing employment relations, wellness and safety, and reporting on workplace human resource management.
  2. Investigate industrial psychology, professional ethics, research methods, psychological assessment, personnel and career psychology and ergonomics as applied to people, careers and consumers.
  3. Present a global, economic overview of general, entrepreneurship and systems business strategy in the marketing, finances, communication, operations, risk, and integration functions of organisations.
  4. Apply ethical and good governance principles in service delivery and decision making within the public sector financial, asset, human resource, administration and management functions.
  5. Apply basic mathematical and statistical constructs to analyse and explain trends within the business and economic sectors.
  6. Explain how labour law govern the rights and duties of the individual, collective and partnership contracts.
  7. Use Microsoft Office and other Information Communications Technology applications to manage workplace data, communication and reporting.
  8. Evaluate financial decisions, management strategies and cost efficiency in the management of workplace projects.

  • Evaluate the value of time, money, and financial decisions impact a project.
  • Manage the scope, time, human resource, cost, communication, quality, risk, procurement, administration, and integration of workplace projects.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Incorporates both formative and summative assessment processes to monitor progress and determine competence.
  • Candidates should demonstrate competence in the specific Exit Level Outcomes in context.
  • Oral and/or written explanations of how to deal with issues not observed during performance.
  • Written and/or oral self-assessment of the practitioner's performance and future improvements.
  • Continuous assessment practices and self-assessment opportunities for learners.

Continuous Assessment:

  • Learners are continuously assessed through various methods including written assignments, tests, and self-assessment exercises.
  • A minimum mark of 40% per module is required for entry into summative assessment.

Self-Assessment:

  • Learners participate in self-assessment of written assignments and discussion forums.
  • Assessed by lecturers, tutors, peers to test analytical, critical, presentation skills, teamwork, and creativity.

Summative Assessment:

  • Integrated assessment through written examinations for each module.
  • Final mark calculated based on test and exam marks, with a pass requirement of at least 50% for the final mark.
  • A sub-minimum of 40% is required to write the modular examination.
