The purpose of this qualification is to facilitate and deepen the learner's general understanding of the theoretical, practical, and ethical aspects of Music Education and Music Performance. It aims to equip learners with the necessary theory and practice of music, as well as provide them with a sufficient depth of knowledge and practical skills for continued personal intellectual growth, postgraduate research, gainful economic activity, and contributions to society.
The qualification also aims to produce music graduates who demonstrate initiative, responsibility, professionalism, and ethics in their roles within the economy and society.
Music plays a crucial role in human affection, cognition, enculturation, social formation, and the economy. Managing this cultural and economic resource responsibly requires professionals with advanced training in various musical fields such as education, (Ethno) musicology, music technology, African music, church music, theory, and performance.
The focus on training educators, performers, and choir conductors is emphasized, especially in South Africa where the need for musical expertise is most urgent. Teaching methods and learning outcomes are aligned with standards recognized by the South African Society for Research in Music, the International Society of Music Educators, and the Pan-African Society of Music Educators. This qualification aims to meet the societal demand for skilled and ethical music professionals.
