Purpose:

The Advanced Diploma in Management aims to develop graduates with lifelong learning capabilities and an understanding of the social context in which they will operate in the business world. The purpose is to equip qualifying learners with applied competencies in specialist and general business and management principles for a career in various management fields and as a basis for further graduate studies. This qualification also aims to prepare learners for postgraduate studies and to become competent organizational leaders and managers across all core functions of an organization. It focuses on developing ethical consciousness and enhancing knowledge and understanding of management-related areas.

Scope of Knowledge:

The qualification provides integrated knowledge in selected management functional areas, enabling learners to enter the business profession, apply management principles in their careers, and pursue postgraduate studies. Learners will develop skills in strategic planning, financial analysis, project management, leadership, diversity management, and personal development.

Rationale:

The qualification aims to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of management, project management, and financial management to effectively apply essential business strategies and techniques. It builds upon foundational knowledge and skills gained in related diplomas, preparing learners for postgraduate studies and providing insights into the working world through practical learning experiences.

Given the high levels of unemployment and skill shortages in South Africa, particularly within the management sector, this qualification seeks to address these critical shortages by instilling managerial, financial, and project management skills in learners to meet the demands of the economy. Emphasis is placed on corporate governance, transparency, and ethics in management practices to produce competent professionals for both public and private sector roles such as project managers, general managers, administrators, and financial experts.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Assessment strategies include participative assessment, case method, formative assessment, and summative assessment
  • Formative assessment methods include tests, presentations, assignments, case studies, practical exercises, and projects
  • Summative assessment includes written examinations
  • Promotion based on meeting minimum pass percentage according to faculty and institutional guidelines.
