Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare students for a career in cost and management accounting as well as for Postgraduate studies in the field of management accounting. This qualification is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Upon obtaining this qualification, students will have direct access to the Postgraduate Diploma in Management Accounting, which is also accredited by CIMA. Students who obtain the Postgraduate Diploma will automatically be admitted to the Strategic Level examination.

  3. Manage resources (financial, human and raw materials in organisations).

Assessment Criteria

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:

  • Analyse real-life situations to identify needs and opportunities.
  • Come up with strategic solutions within routine and non-routine contexts.
  • Choose correct procedures to solve specific business problems.
  • Organise resources effectively to achieve maximum output with limited resources.
  • Apply appropriate principles to situations in real-life or simulated scenarios.
  • Evaluate results of application and maintain required professional standards.
  • Discuss and present information in appropriate ways (numerically, verbally, graphically, etc).

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:

  • Interpret specific current economic events.
  • Apply economic principles to real-life situations.
  • Compare current contexts with past and potential future contexts.
  • Relate learning from individual experience to academic knowledge and vice versa.
  • Interpret local conditions in relation to international conditions.
  • Reflect on personal experience and academic disciplines.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:

  • Evaluate the economic and efficient use and flow of resources within an organisation.
  • Identify critical areas for resource allocation and management.
  • Follow specified procedures and perform audits.
  • Convey findings and recommendations effectively to appropriate levels of management.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:

  • Use disciplinary and interdisciplinary information related to specific problems.
  • Explore relationships between economic and socio-cultural situations.
  • Take an informed stand on socio-economic and social issues.
  • Interact with texts through critical listening/reading skills.
  • Collect, analyse, organise, and evaluate information from various sources in different fields.
  • Integrate information from different sources to solve problems in relevant fields.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5:

  • Relate information from one discipline to others.
  • Identify different cultural and economic systems.
  • Reconcile different management styles at various levels.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Formative Assessment: Includes activities in study guides, self-assessment questions, and written assignments.
  • Summative Assessment: Conducted through examinations per module.
  • Feedback is provided for both formative and summative assessments to aid in student development and improvement.
