Purpose and Rationale

The purpose of this project is threefold:

  1. Psychological and Social Wellbeing: Providing insights into the psychological and social wellbeing of individuals affected by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Understanding the impact of these diseases on mental health and social interactions is crucial in developing effective interventions and support systems.

  2. Designing Communication Interventions: Developing discipline-based knowledge and research skills to design, analyze, and evaluate educational materials for HIV and AIDS communication interventions. These interventions are tailored to address the diverse needs of different target audiences, with the aim of raising awareness, increasing knowledge, and promoting positive behavior change.

  3. Literature Review on Social Issues: Understanding the nature, steps, and writing processes involved in conducting a comprehensive literature review. By focusing on the social issues surrounding HIV and AIDS, this project aims to explore the broader impacts of these diseases on individuals, communities, and societies. This research can provide valuable insights for policy-making and advocacy efforts in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and care.

Outcomes

  1. Engage in critical thinking and problem solving in studying topics of a complex and specialised nature.
  2. Reflect on their own knowledge and practice in the light of the theory and practice in Public Administration.
  3. Conduct research.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Formative Assessment:

    • Activities in study guides.
    • Self-assessment questions in study guides.
    • Written assignments (MCQs, short questions, essays).
    • Assignments contribute to the final module mark.
    • Feedback provided in study guides and tutorial letters.
  • Summative Assessment:

    • Conducted through a two to three-hour examination per module.
    • Feedback on summative assessments provided upon request.

By aligning assessment criteria with exit level outcomes, students are evaluated comprehensively on their problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, ensuring a well-rounded education and preparation for their future careers.
