Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Overview

The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide Honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) graduates with:

  1. Demonstrate Thorough Familiarity: Students will have a thorough familiarity with a specific discipline or interdisciplinary framework.

  2. Capability for Independent Performance: Graduates will be equipped to perform independently as intellectual leaders in society.

Overall, the qualification aims to fulfill the needs of South Africa and other countries by producing competent graduates who can contribute towards solving complex problems and serve as leaders in their respective fields.

Outcomes

  1. Identify, analyse, formulate and solve convergent and divergent problems and issues related to the natural and human environments.

  • Summative Assessment through a written exam (80%) and a research article (80%).
  • Formative Assessment through draft papers (20%) and assignments.
  • Assessment designed to test research skills, knowledge, and competence.
  • Formative Assessment through study guide activities, self-assessment questions, and written assignments.
  • Feedback provided in study guides, tutorial letters, and marked assignments.
