Bachelor of Arts Honours in Applied Linguistics

Communication Studies and Language - Language

Purpose and Rationale

The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide Honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) graduates with systematic knowledge, specialised skills, and theoretical competence focusing on a specific discipline or within an interdisciplinary framework. This prepares them for specialist training at an advanced level.

The second purpose of the qualification is to equip graduates with in-depth knowledge and confidence to identify and define complex problems. They are also trained to apply their skills in finding solutions, particularly in unfamiliar contexts, benefiting South Africa and other countries.

The third purpose of the qualification is to produce individuals who can exhibit strong familiarity with a specific discipline or interdisciplinary framework. Graduates are expected to operate independently as intellectual leaders in society, contributing to the growth and development of South Africa and other nations.
