Purpose and Rationale

Purpose: The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with specialised knowledge of concepts, theories, models, laws, principles, skills, research methods, and applied competence in advanced tourism enabling them to pursue rewarding careers in the changing tourism environment within the national and international context. Assessment Criteria

The Assessment and Moderation Policy of the North West University (NWU) ensures that qualification, programme, and module outcomes are aligned with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) Level Descriptors. These outcomes and assessment criteria are clearly communicated to students to guide assessment practices at the NWU. Integrated assessment, which evaluates the main purpose and key outcomes of the qualification, is included at least once in the assessment activities for this qualification.

Formative assessment methods such as class tests and integrated assignments make up a maximum of 50% of the pass mark. Summative assessment is conducted through 2 to 3 hour written examinations per module, accounting for the remaining 50% of the pass mark.

A crucial component of the integrated assessment is the research report or mini-dissertation, carrying a credit value of 32. Students are required to submit this report under the supervision of a designated supervisor.
