Purpose and Rationale

Purpose

Outcomes

  1. Apply knowledge and skills to assess and predict work-related competencies and skills of existing and prospective labour relations.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to advice on or supply solutions to problematic labour relations situations in the work context.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to devise frameworks and systems regarding the maintenance (conditions of service, fringe benefits, legislation related aspects, etc.) of human resources.
  4. Apply skills in the management of projects in the aforementioned areas.
  5. Consult relevant literature and undertake empirical research of limited scope, draw valid conclusions and assist in the application thereof.
  6. Manage the negotiation of labour relations agreements and the settlement of labour related disputes.

The following Associated Assessment Criteria will be assessed in an integrated manner across the Exit Level Outcomes:

  1. Systematic and integrated knowledge and understanding: Students should demonstrate an ability to analyze, evaluate, and apply fundamental terms, concepts, facts, principles, rules, and theories in a coherent and integrated manner.

  2. Ability to apply appropriate discipline-related methods of scientific inquiry: Students should be able to independently validate, evaluate, and manage sources of information relevant to their discipline.

  3. Critical reflection and problem-solving: Students should demonstrate critical reflection on complex discipline-related problems and be able to apply appropriate methods or practices to resolve them, thereby introducing change within related practice.

  4. Professional and ethical behavior: Students should exhibit professional and ethical behavior within an academic and discipline-related environment, showing sensitivity towards societal and cultural considerations.

  5. Effective communication: Students should be able to effectively communicate scientific understanding and their own opinions/ideas in written or oral arguments, using appropriate discipline-related and academic discourse as well as technology.

  6. Effective team functioning: Students should be able to function effectively as a member and/or leader of a team or group in scientific projects or investigations. They should demonstrate self-directed management of learning activities and take responsibility for their own learning progress.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Continuous formative assessment strategies such as assignments, portfolios, and tests will be employed.
  • Integrated summative assessments, including formal examinations and a mini-dissertation, project, or report, will be conducted.
  • Oral presentations of smaller integrated research projects or seminars in individual and group contexts may also be utilized.
  • Students will be continuously assessed on the application of integrated knowledge and advanced skills to ensure their competence for the workplace.
