Purpose:
The purpose of the qualification is to equip students with a high level of theoretical engagement and intellectual independence regarding Business Statistics. This will deepen their expertise in the field, emphasizing the important role of research in the business world, particularly in Business Statistics. Students will be trained to conduct authentic evaluations and independent research under supervision, focusing on relevant issues in Business Statistics. The program aims to cultivate progressive thinking in Business Statistics by creating scholars with a comprehensive understanding of this specialization. Furthermore, it prepares candidates for further postgraduate studies at the Master's level and beyond, specifically in the field of Business Statistics.
Rationale:
South Africa faces a shortage of well-trained and critically thinking scientists capable of conducting independent, high-quality research. This qualification seeks to address this by producing graduates with the research skills needed to engage in advanced research under expert guidance in Business Statistics. These graduates will contribute to expanding the local leadership pool in innovative economic and scholarly endeavors. Additionally, the qualification aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, applied competence, and professional attitude in Business Statistics to facilitate ongoing personal intellectual growth, pursue economic opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to society.

Knowledge and Understanding: Students will be evaluated on their systematic and integrated knowledge and understanding of fundamental terms, concepts, facts, principles, rules, and theories relevant to the discipline.
Scientific Inquiry: Ability to apply appropriate discipline-related methods of scientific inquiry will be assessed. Students should be able to independently validate, evaluate, and manage sources of information.
Problem-Solving Skills: Critical reflection, understanding, and application of appropriate methods to resolve complex discipline-related problems will be assessed. Students should demonstrate the ability to introduce change within related practice.
Professional and Ethical Behavior: Evaluation of professional and ethical behavior within an academic and discipline-related environment, with sensitivity towards societal and cultural considerations, will be conducted.
Communication Skills: Assessment will be done on the ability to effectively communicate scientific understanding and own opinions/ideas in written or oral arguments using appropriate discipline-related and academic discourse and technology.
Teamwork and Self-Management: Effective functioning as a member and/or leader of a team or group in scientific projects or investigations, with self-directed management of learning activities and responsibility for own learning progress, will be evaluated.
