Business, Commerce and Management Studies - Human Resources
Purpose: The purpose of the qualification is to produce learners who will master a systematic and coherent body of knowledge, an understanding of underlying theories, concepts, and principles to further their studies in the specialization of choice. Learners will have sufficient depth of knowledge and the skills to investigate and manage psychosocial phenomena in the work context.
Rationale: South Africa is in many ways still very much a developing country in need of specialists who can focus on enhancing the quality of work-life of its citizens. This qualification aims to enable Industrial and Organisational Psychologists and Labour Relations practitioners to function effectively in their respective roles within industry and business. Additionally, it provides the necessary foundation for continuation with a BCom Honours in Industrial and Organisational Psychology.
The qualification will open up opportunities for continued growth, postgraduate studies, and engagement in various related careers with rewarding and constructive contributions to society. Society will benefit from professional and ethical learners in their roles within the economy and society, widening, increasing, and transforming the leadership base in South Africa for innovation, science-based economic development, and research. This will also contribute to the education of future generations of industrial and organisational psychologists and labour relations practitioners.
Integrated Assessment
This qualification utilizes a combination of formative, summative, and integrated assessments across the three years of study. These assessments include written tests, practical assignments, and examinations in the different disciplines covered by the qualification.
In addition to these assessments, learners are also evaluated on their communication skills both orally and in written format, and their proficiency in using appropriate IT tools is also assessed.
