This qualification aims to provide South Africa with graduates who are competent in the field of finance with the capacity to understand and function effectively in the economy.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with integrated knowledge of economic concepts, theories, models, laws, principles, skills, research methods, and applied competence enabling them to pursue rewarding careers in the changing economic and financial environment within the national and international context.
The assessment criteria are integrated into the Exit level Outcomes, demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of fundamental terms, concepts, principles, and theories. The ability to analyze, evaluate, and apply discipline-related methods of scientific inquiry is evident, with the independent validation and management of information sources. The resolution of complex discipline-related problems and the introduction of change are critically reflected upon, showcasing the application of appropriate methods and practices. Professional and ethical behavior, considering societal and cultural aspects, is consistently displayed in academic and discipline-related environments.
Effective communication of scientific understanding, opinions, and ideas is demonstrated through written and oral arguments using discipline-related discourse and technology. The ability to function as a member or leader in scientific projects, with self-directed learning management and responsibility for learning progress, is evident.
The institution adheres to the Assessment and Moderation Policy, clearly formulating qualification, programme, and module outcomes and assessment criteria according to SAQA level descriptors. Students are guided by these principles in assessment practices. Integrated assessment is included, focusing on the main purpose and key outcomes of the qualification/programme. Formative assessment methods such as class tests and integrated assignments are utilized, comprising a maximum of 50% of the total assessment weight. Summative assessment includes one or more 2 to 3-hour examinations per module, with a weight of 50%.
