Purpose: The purpose of the Honours in Computer and Information Technology Science programme is to train graduates in an outcomes-based approach. The programme aims to ensure immediate employability nationally as Computer and Information Technology scientists and programmers in various organisations while also preparing students for future MSc studies in Computer Science.
Rationale: South Africa, as well as the global community, has a growing need for scientists and information technologists. It is imperative to increase the enrollment of students in science and technology programmes in Higher Education. Employers and the government have identified the demand for computer scientists and information technologists with specialized skills. This programme equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the workplace or pursue further studies at a tertiary level.
