Communication Studies and Language - Communication Studies
The purpose of this qualification is to produce graduates who have specialized in developing a philosophical or meta-perspective within the following disciplines: Psychological Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities (Languages, History and History of Art), Natural Sciences (Geography, Mathematics, Computer Sciences), and Economics. Graduates will be equipped to look beyond the surface, to delve deeper into the core of these disciplines and the world at large. Additionally, the program aims to cultivate in graduates a heightened awareness of the ethical implications of their professional roles within society. The qualification seeks to provide students with opportunities for personal intellectual growth, potential postgraduate studies, diverse career paths, and the ability to make positive contributions to society.
The distinguishing factor of this qualification is the integration of significant philosophical modules (in Philosophy and Ethics) with the chosen special disciplines. By incorporating philosophical perspectives, the program aims to offer students insights into the foundational principles, meta-theoretical assumptions, and broader contexts that underpin the various disciplines and the world they will engage with professionally. The degree also emphasizes independent study, potentially culminating in a supervised research project at the end of the program. This unique blend of philosophical and specialized disciplinary knowledge is intended to provide students with advanced critical thinking skills, meta-theoretical understanding, and research capabilities. The qualification paves the way for further studies not only within philosophical disciplines but also in the specific fields encompassed by the qualification.
By combining Philosophy and Philosophical Ethics with a selection of special disciplines, this program is designed to empower students with a comprehensive skill set that includes critical thinking, ethical considerations, and independent research abilities, preparing them for a wide range of career opportunities and further academic pursuits.
