Purpose:
The purpose of the Bachelor of Child and Youth Care is to produce graduates to assume professional roles in a range of child and youth care settings. Completion of the Degree will enable graduates to apply for registration as professional child and youth care workers. In this role, professionals will be able to offer developmental and therapeutic services with a focus on relational and life space work with children, youth, and families. Graduates would be able to function in administrative and supervisory roles within the field of auxiliary level child and youth care.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic and other risk factors have led to an increasing number of vulnerable children, creating a demand for skilled social service workers. The qualification aims to prepare professionals to work with vulnerable populations. The qualification aligns with Millennium Goals related to child development, education, and health by offering specialized childhood development knowledge and intervention skills. The Bachelor of Child and Youth Care is designed to equip professionals with the necessary skills to work effectively in various settings where services need to be delivered to vulnerable children, youth, and families.
